Negligent homicide/involuntary manslaughter is a Class A misdemeanor offense and can result in penalties of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500. However, in Utah, vehicular manslaughter/automobile homicide is treated much more harshly. It is a third degree felony offense and can result in penalties of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. A second offense is a second degree felony and can result in penalties of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
